Three more gates opened at Tenughat dam to release excess water

The heavy inflow of water has forced the Tenughta Dam management to open three more gates to release excess water. With this move, the management has now opened five gates at the dam.

Tenughat dam flood control division nodal officer Pankaj, who goes by only one name, has sent an advisory to the Bokaro and Dhanbad district administrations and the Damodar Valley Corporation superintending engineer at Panchyet Dam, requesting them to act suitably.

The dam has started releasing around 9 lakh cusec water per hour at rate of 15,000 cusec water per second since 10 am on Monday. The Tenughat management also has issued warning for a sudden increase in the water levels of the Damodar River in Bokaro and Dhanbad districts.

Meanwhile , the Panchyet Dam management opened all eleven gates of dam to save the dam as its started receiving addition water released form Panchyet dam following opening of additional gates at Tenughat dam.

According to available reports, the water level of the Panchyet dam to has crossed the danger level and is discharging 88,100 acre-feet water on an hourly basis, resulting in a flood in the low-lying districts of West Bengal.

The release of excess water has also adversely affected the water supply system in the area. The Jamadoba mineral area development authority pumps have completely submerged, disrupting the water supply to the Jharia township. The supply can be restored only after the water recedes, a pump operator said.
