The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is now focusing on Jamshedpur in connection with the Burdwan blast on October 2 in which two terrorists of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JuL) of Bangladesh were killed. NIA interrogation revealed arrested accused Sheesh Mahmood’s links with JUL, Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT) and his Bangladeshi nationality. JUL owes allegiance to Al Qaeda.

NIA, along with West Bengal CID, STF and Jamshedpur Police, had picked up Sheesh, 45, from Tanzil Manzil, Azadnagar Raod No-12A here on Friday while his relative Akabrullah had fled by jumping over the boundary wall during the night-long raid. Akbarullah had come to Murshidabad on October 13 and then was brought to Jamshedpur by Sheesh who visited Burdwan and Murshidabad prior to Khagragarh bomb blast and again on October 13.
The joint team led by Bidhannagar commissionerate inspector Tarak Bhattacharya seized two mobiles, three SIM cards, telephone diary, passport, voter card, driving licence and other documents.
Police sources told HT that Sheesh Mahmood was traced through call details from the mobile phones recovered from Shakeel Ghazi, who was killed in the Khagragarh (Burdwan) bomb blast on October 2. “Sheesh’s wife Nazira Biwi had called on his Jamshedpur SIM but the latter replied from his Murshidabad SIM number which prominently figured in Ghazi’s mobile call details,” sources said.
NIA has also traced Sheesh and Burdwan blast’s link with top Indian Mujahideen (IM) and SIMI terrorist Abu Faizal with series of numbers on the currency worth 46 lakh looted from SBI Branch of Karimnagar (Andhra Pradesh) matching with money recovered from the two terrorists of Faizal group arrested from Hyderabad on Friday and those recovered from killed terrorists in Burdwan blasts and their arrested wives Almina Biwi and Razia Biwi.
Incidentally, Sheesh was arrested from a rented house just a road apart from the house from where MP ATS had arrested Faizal and krar Sheikh alias Irshad on June 5, 2011. They too had come here after looting 13 kg gold worth `2.50 crore from a Bhopal-based finance company.
As per the CCTV footage of Karimnagar SBI Bank robbery, it was executed in February by Faizal and his accomplices who fled from Khandwa Jail on October 1 last year and the money was sent to Burdwan Jihadi module through JUL in Bangladesh.
A total of `15 crore has so far been traced to have been sent to JUL through hawala by several businessmen from Kolkata alone.
Police sources here said Sheesh was originally a resident of Bagura district of Bangaldesh but has been living in Jamshepdur with his second wife Nazira Biwi for the past nine years during which he graduated from a mason to building contractor.
“He was frequently changing his houses and lived in different rented houses in Azadnagar, Jakirnagar and Jawaharnagar on road no-2, 5, 8, 10 and now 12A. His passport was made on his address at Road No-8 and so are his driving licence and other ID cards, bank accounts in 2011. He got his LPG connection in Ramchandrapur (Kulgachi) on November 2, 2009 which was transferred to his Jamshedpur address on February 15, 2011,”sources said.
