Traffic snarls due to wrong parking of vehicles have become a common scene at Feroze Gandhi market. People generally park their vehicles in the tow-away zone or on road's portion that is reserved for fire services, as the MC is not paying proper attention towards these violations.

Sometimes commuters take 10-15 minutes to cover a distance of 300-400 metres in the market due to these traffic jams.
Also encroachments and illegal constructions in the market are also one of the main reasons behind the traffic snarls. It was learnt that the visitors and employees to the nearby markets, buildings, mini-secretariat and hotels used to park vehicles on roads that causes jams.

Besides, there is an entry for local courts and the mini-secretariat from Feroze Gandhi market side due to which vehicles are parked in a wrong manner.

KS Monga, general secretary of the Traders and Property Owners' Association, Feroze Gandhi market, said, "Visitors to Nehru Sidhant Kender and nearby hotels also used to park their vehicles in a wrong manner on roads. As a bank is not allowing the visitors to park vehicles on its premises, visitors park vehicles in the tow-away zone. The MC should take action against the violators."

Col (retired) Harjap Singh, chairman of Traders and Property Owners' Association, Feroze Gandhi market, said, "Several illegal constructions have been raised, but the civic body is ignoring these violations. There is no proper parking arrangements made in these illegal constructions due to which people opt for wrong parking practices."

"There are proper parking lots for visitors to the market, but we are helpless as the MC has failed to act against violators," he said.

Residents speak:

The MC should ensure proper parking of vehicles to avoid traffic snarls in the market. Visitors should not park vehicles in road portion reserved for fire services in emergency.

Dilraj Singh, a commuter

I usually get stuck in traffic jam as the vehicles are wrongly parked here. The parking of vehicles should be allowed at parking lots only.

Harkishan, a visitor at market

Official speak:

I will look into the matter. The MC team will conduct checking and take action against violations. We will find out solution of traffic snarls.

Rishipal Singh, additional commissioner
