Ward no 26 residents forced to live in unhygienic conditions due to garbage dump adjoining houses

The residents of Seeta Nagar in ward number 26 are a harried lot, as they are being forced to live under unhygienic conditions due to the dumping of garbage near their homes.

The residents have accused the municipal corporation commissioner and A2Z group of using the vacant land adjoining their homes to dump garbage due to which they generally fall sick.

As the Lok Sabha elections are nearing, residents also announced to boycott elections if their problems were not redressed.

A resident of Seeta Nagar, Vimmi Soni, said, “All my family members fell sick due to this dump, which has been creating troubles here for the past six months. Garbage is not being lifted from this dump. The MC officials should visit here, so that they can realise what problems are being faced by us. Now, we have decided to boycott the elections if our problems are not redressed.”

“The condition of roads is too pathetic and the quality of drinking water is not good, but the officials never visit to look into the problems being faced by the residents,” she said.

A shopkeeper, Saurav Mittal, said, “We have filed complaints so many times with the municipal corporation, but nobody takes action on our complaints. Even the area councillor usually overlooks our problems. The sweepers also throw garbage here, and the dump stinks so much that it becomes difficult to walk from here.”

The residents have also displayed banners to mark their protests against the state government and municipal corporation. The residents also warned the candidates for not asking for votes, until their problem was redressed.

Councillor Kashmir Kaur did not attend calls, while a family member of the councillor had taken the call, and claimed that Kashmir Kaur was out of station.

However, the residents also accused that Kashmir Kaur never attended their calls, and only his family members talked to the residents.

Sanitary inspector Netaji said, “It is a private vacant land, and we will ensure that nobody throws garbage here.”

MC joint commissioner Amarjeet Singh Sekhon and chief of health and sanitation wing said, “We will look into the problem being faced by the residents, and ensure that the garbage is lifted soon.”
