Visitors charged for parking in open area at MC office

Unauthorised “attendants” at an open area set aside for parking on the premises of the municipal corporation office at Mata Rani Chowk continue to cheat visitors by charging them for stationing their vehicles despite the fact that parking there is absolutely free unlike in the case of the multilevel parking lot located within the MC office premises.

On any given day these so-called attendants can be seen issuing parking slips that do not denote the fee amount even as most visitors are unaware the fees are illegal.

“I had to pay for parking but I didn’t know at all that attendants weren’t supposed to charge visitors,” said a local.

According to sources, some civic officials were said to be in the know about the illegal practice at the parking lot. However, when contacted, Rajeev Bharadwaj, superintendent at the MC’s Zone A, claimed he had no idea about what was going on.

“Visitors can only be charged for parking their vehicles at the multilevel parking lot at the MC office. I don’t know who is behind this practice of issuing parking slips at the lot outside the MC office. Anyway, it’s the police’s responsibility to take action in such matters.”

It is pertinent to mention here the police post inside the MC building is located just at few yards away from the parking lot where residents are being charged illegally.
