Two govt employees also drawing salary from PU-affiliated college

A case of two government employees simultaneously working at two places has come to light.

Sharan Kaur, a Punjabi lecturer at Adarsh School, Daulatpur Neeva, in Moga district, and Buta Singh, food inspector at Mahal Kalan, in Barnala district, have also been working as regular associate professors at Raikot-based Sadbhavna College of Education for Women, affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The irregularity came to light when a committee constituted by PU vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover visited the college on March 6 regarding the extension of affiliation for B Ed and M Ed courses for 2013-14.
The committee members found that several teachers were not working in the college, but were "presented" by the college solely for the purpose of inspection. So, the committee members contacted the Adarsh school and the food supply department to verify the charges and found that both also worked at these places.

Sharan Kaur, who has been working as a Punjabi lecturer at Adarah School, was appointed as a regular associate professor at the college on November 3, 2012. She draws a salary of Rs 23,760 per month.

Buta Singh has been working as an inspector in the food and supply department at Mahal Kalan in Barnala. He was appointed lecturer on a permanent post by a PU-constituted committee in November 2009 and has been drawing a salary of Rs 23,760 per month.

Talking to Hindustan Times, education minister Sikander Singh Maluka said, "I have asked the director general school education to probe the matter and send a report so that we can take action against the lecturer. I am disappointed at a government teacher working at two places. We will dismiss the teacher if she is found violating the rules."

Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, minister for food and civil supplies, was not available for comment.
