The sub-committees formed at the college and university level to give recommendations and suggestions on the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), a system that allows students to choose interdisciplinary, intra-disciplinary, skill-oriented course, even from other disciplines, will submit their respective proposals to the main committee chaired by the dean university instructions (DUI), Panjab University, by this week.
A sub-committee member, seeking anonymity, said, “The drafts regarding all core courses that will be available for the students besides elective courses and the related subject combinations have been prepared. The committee made for the BSc course has planned to offer 14 core courses and four discipline specific elective courses.”
He added, “The system is already in place and, it seems, it will surely get clearance and will be implemented at the PU and at the college-level as well.”
Sanjay Chhiber from the department of microbiology, the member of a sub-committee, said all the departments would submit their recommendations and suggestions on the CBCS system soon.
While taking admission in any of the courses in a total of 11 selective departments, students will be made to fill up a subject of their choice that they wish to pursue along with their main course.
Sample: If the student takes an admission in bio-physics course, he/she can also opt for any subject from arts or commerce.
The additional subject will enable the students to score extra credits, which will further help them during the admission in master programme.
11 DEPTS TO IMPLEMENT THE SYSTEM
The departments of bio-chemistry, bio-physics, bio-chemistry, bio-technology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, zoology, geology, mathematics and economics will submit their drafts to the main committee.
