Rising score graph to help PSEB students grab choicest seats

With the perfor mance graph of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) students rising this year, they are set to give competition to those from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), who for years have been ahead in making it to merit lists.

Last year, of the four streams in PSEB Class 12 exams, only the humanities topper reached 96%, while rest topped with 94% marks. However, this year, toppers in three streams got 96% or above marks, while one student topped with 95% marks.

Colle ges like Gover nment College for Girls, SCD Government College and Khalsa College for Women remain mostsought after by CBSE students, leaving hardly any seats for PSEB students.

Kirandeep Kaur, a for mer PSEB student, who is now pursuing BA-2 at Government College for Girls, said, “Though I got 83% marks, I got through only through the waiting list. Many students in the merit list were from CBSE board. But I am happy that this year PSEB students are going to give a tough fight to CBSE students.”

College principal Gurminder Kaur said, “Admissions in the college are strictly based on merit, irrespective of boards. It’s great if the state board’s students’ performance has bettered, as this will increase their chance of grabbing more seats in colleges of their choice.”
