As long queues are being witnessed at the property tax collection windows of the suwidha centres, the municipal corporation's (MC) online facility is becoming popular now.

To avoid long queues, residents are using the online facility. A total of 70,387 property tax returns have been filed by the residents till March 13. Of these, 24,231 property tax returns were filed online.
Residents generally do complain about the long queues at the suwidha centres and sometimes they have to wait for up to two hours to file property tax. The rush is being witnessed at Suwidha Centres as deadline to pay property tax of 2014-15 is March 31.
Also the MC is creating awareness among residents to file the property tax online to avoid long queues at MC offices.
The residents are also giving feedbacks through various ways that the online filing of the property tax is much easier.
To avail the benefit, the residents can visit website www.mcludhiana.gov.in, where they can register themselves to file the property tax return. The residents would have to give the building details and other required information following which they can file property tax return.
MC has collected Rs 25.24 crore in form of property tax till March 13. Of these, rs 4.63 crore was collected through online.
A city resident, Dr Rajanbir Singh Thind, said, “I paid the property tax returns online as it is very easy. There is a huge rush at MC offices, so I think residents should prefer online to pay property tax. The MC should create more awareness about paying property tax online among people.”
Another resident, Harjinder, said, “I had also paid property tax online last year. I think it is the best way for residents to pay it online to avoid waiting in long queues. I think that many people can't use online service so MC should find out a solution for them.”
MC joint commissioner PS Ghuman said, “We are getting good response as the residents are taking benefit of online service to pay property tax. The residents should pay the property tax timely.”
He said, “The facility to pay property tax is also available at selected branches of HDFC.”
As per the latest report, MC has collected Rs 30 crore as property tax till Saturday. Around 80,000 property tax returns have been received by the MC.
