Regularise your illegal water, sewerage connections at reduced rates till May 31

The local bodies department of Punjab has given a golden chance for regularisation of illegal connections of sewerage and water supply by the municipal corporation (MC) till May 31. So, the residents who had been using illegal connections can get their connections regularised till May 31 following which the MC may start a drive against illegal connections.

Also, giving relaxation in regularisation rates, the department has reduced the regularisation fee for a 125 sq yard residential plot from Rs 2,350 to Rs 550 till May 31. The rates have also been reduced for regularisation of illegal water supply and sewerage connections in the commercial sector.

MC superintendent Jasdev Singh Sekhon said that they were already conducting a survey to know about the illegal connections. It was a good opportunity for the residents, and they should get their connections regularised as soon as possible.

MC commissioner GK Singh said, "I want to appeal to the residents to get their connections regularised, as it is a golden opportunity for them. We will also create awareness about the scheme."

GK Singh said, "The persons who have to get their connections regularised can visit the MC offices and fulfill the process required. After May 31, the connection fees, user charges, road cutting and other charges will be charged for connection regularisation."

"I also appeal to also those residents who have not paid their pending user charges of water supply and sewerage as they can pay user charges without penalty and interest up to April 30," he added.

It is required to mention here that the department of local bodies found that the some persons used illegal water supply and sewerage connections due to which the local bodies were facing financial loses. The illegal connections were also becoming reason for shortage of water.
