Narada was world’s first journalist! That’s what RSS is saying in Punjab
FATHER FIGURE: Distributes pamphlets saying the media in Punjab had already recognised Narada as ‘father of media’
Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) has found a new role model for journalists. It’s none other than Narada, the peripatetic sage and storyteller.

The RSS cadre in Punjab held a series of seminars on the ‘Role of media in modern India’, to introduce Narada as the first-ever journalist of the world. “Our research has found that Narad muni ji was not only the torchbearer of media, but he can also be projected as the world’s first-ever journalist,” stated Ram Gopal, who heads Vishwa Samwad Kendra (VSK), an offshoot of the RSS in Punjab.
Gopal was addressing a seminar organised in Mansa on Sunday. Similar events were also held in Bathinda and Kotkapura to mark Narada’s birth anniversary in May as per the traditional Hindu calendar.
“The journalists have so far been deprived of their ‘margdarshak’ (torchbearer),” Gopal declared, adding, “but this discovery has now got them their historic icon.”
Gopal went on to say that Narada had even described the significance of freedom of expression in the granth- ‘Naradsukti’.
A pamphlet distributed at these events stated, “It has been observed that the media fraternity in Punjab has accepted Narad as the ‘father’ of journalism.”
“Narada has been duly acknowledged among the demons and the Gods and the humans, and he has certain qualities like raising queries that establish him as a journalist,” it added.
The speakers also paid tributes to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as great nationalists and eminent journalists who also edited journals dedicated to ‘Jan Sangh’, the older version of RSS.
