Girls have once again outshined boys in the Class 12 Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) examinations, with three of the four stream toppers being girls. The results were declared by Punjab education minister Sikander Singh Maluka at SAS Nagar on Sunday.

However, while last year top three positions, besides two other positions in the top 10 list of the state, were from Ludhiana, this year, district students figured only at the eighth and 10th positions.
On the brighter side, 108 students from the district, maximum from any district, figured in the merit list out of 389 students. The number last year was 139 out of 324.
Scoring 96.66% marks, Hardeep Kaur of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, bagged first position in the district in non-medical stream and eighth in the top 10 list of the state.
Simran Grewal, a student of Government Senior Secondary Model School, PAU, clinched the top spot in medical stream in the district with 96% marks. Ishpreet Singh of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, who came 10th in the state, stood first in the district in humanities with 96.22% marks.
In commerce stream, Harmeet Kaur, a student of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Dholewal, bagged the first spot in the district after scoring 95.56% marks. This year, no student from the vocational stream made it to the merit list. In 2013, Simarpreet Kaur of Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Memorial Government School, Bharat Nagar, had topped the district with 92% marks.
