The tricity witnessed a pleasant first week of June, largely due to the unexpected rainfall, and according to meteorological department, this trend is set to continue throughout June.

Although the 25.8 mm rain witnessed in the past week is nowhere near the 66.5 mm rain witnessed in the first eight days of June in 2017, it’s still more than the meagre 3.3 mm rain in the year before that.

According to IMD, light rain and thundery conditions are going to continue at least into the beginning of the next week. “Thereafter, pre-monsoon is expected to start in the third week of June, and monsoon may arrive by June 29,” said Surender Paul, director, IMD, Chandigarh.

According to a weatherman at IMD, this year’s initial prediction states that monsoon will be on time. “It is too early to tell, but monsoon may also arrive 3 to 4 days early,” he added. In 2017 monsoon arrived on July 3, July 2 in 2016, and June 25 in 2015.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on Friday at 39.6 degrees saw little change from Thursday’s 39.5 degrees. However, minimum temperature went up from 27.2 degrees to 30.6 degrees, 6 degrees above normal.
