Instead of the old diesel engine, the new train would be running on power supply to keep the Rakh Bagh pollution free. The officials concerned claimed that the train would be run on a trial basis for the next 10 days, following which it will be made ready for children.
Omana Kuttan, electrical supervisor of the private firm that is installing the parts of the new train, said each coach will have the seating capacity of 12 kids. He said that the equipment and power line are being installed for the toy train.
The toy train would not cause pollution as it will run through a power line of 48 volt alternative current, sources say.
A visitor to Rakh Bagh, Dinesh Kumar, recalled his old days when he along with his friend used to have rides in Rakh Bagh Express, a mini train, around 20 years ago. “It is a good initiative as the new toy train would bring the golden days back. I wish my children to enjoy the wonderful ride on the toy train,”he said.
Earlier this year, the MC signed an agreement with Hero Cycles Group for the maintenance of Rakh Bagh. According to the MC officials, nominal charges will be taken for the toy train ride at this prominent park of the city.
It is worth mentioning here that the old toy train had developed a snag several years ago but the MC had expressed its helplessness to get it repaired. The residents have been demanding for a long time to see the toy train back.
Earlier, the authorities concerned had claimed that the toy train would be made functional before Diwali but the process got delayed.
MC additional commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that it was expected that the train would be running on track in December. He said that the work for setting up the project is in full swing.
