Posing as passengers, four men rob driver of Ola cab in Ludhiana
One of the accused, sitting on the front passenger seat flashed a sharp-edged weapon and asked him to stop the car. Another accused put a pistol on his head from behind and threatened to kill him.
Four miscreants posing as passengers robbed an Ola Cab driver of his vehicle at gunpoint in the wee hours of Monday.
The men hired the cab without online booking and robbed him when they reached near Jugiana village. Later, however, when the cab ran out of fuel, the accused abandoned it near Rajpura and fled.
The cab driver, Kuldeep Kumar, 58, of Mangli Neechi village, said that he drives an Ola cab, a Tata Indica (PB 01A 6040) owned by a Bathinda-based woman.
On the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, when he was standing outside the Ludhiana railway station and waiting for passengers, four men approached him and asked him to drop them at Sahnewal.
The driver said he has asked the passengers to book the cab through the mobile application; however, the accused told him that their internet was not working. The accused managed to convince him to drop them to Sahnewal without booking and also promised to give him some extra money. The deal was settled in ₹300.
Kuldeep said that as they reached near Jugiana village on National Highway -1, one of the accused, sitting on the front passenger seat flashed a sharp-edged weapon and asked him to stop the car.
Another accused put a pistol on his head from behind and threatened to kill him.
“I had no option but to follow their instruction and alight from the car. The accused also took ₹500 from my pocket, two mobile phones and drove away the car,” said Kuldeep Kumar.
“I walked for three kilometres to find a police checkpoint and narrated the whole incident to police personnel, who alerted the police control room,”he added.
Inspector Gurmeet Singh, the station house office (SHO) of Sahnewal police station said that the GPS of the cab was not functioning.
The police also alerted the police stations of surrounding districts. After some time, the police got to know that the Rajpura police have found the car parked near a flyover.
He added that the miscreants left the car after it ran out of petrol.
The SHO added that the police are scanning the footage of the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at the railway station to trace the accused. A robbery case has been registered against unidentified persons.
