Learning no lessons from the past problems, the municipal corporation (MC) has failed to shift the dump adjoining nullah near Damoria Bridge (railway under bridge), where water logging is a major problem during monsoon. Residents are worried as the monsoon has begun and the problem will arise again.
They say the nullah generally gets blocked due to garbage being thrown into it and the residents continue to suffer as MC has failed to find a solution to the problem.
On visiting the area, residents told that garbage is not being lifted in time and nobody stops people from throwing garbage into the nullah. Residents have been demanding shifting of dump to another place and covering open portion of nullah. The problems worsen during monsoon, as rain water accumulates on the road under Damoria Bridge making it difficult for the commuters to cross the area.
Locals told that when nullah overflows, the adjoining road merges in water. The under bridge and adjoining area near nullah is low lying that leads to waterlogging.
Residents told that sometimes three feet water gets collected on the road under Damoria Bridge. This generally leads to technical snags in the vehicles' machinery. Shopkeepers told that water also enters into their shops whenever dirty water from nullah overflows.
They told that they have requested MC several times, but it has failed to redress their problems. They also said it becomes difficult to breath due to foul smell of the nullah. Residents living nearby are a harried lot suffering due to the unsanitary conditions. Potholed roads
MC has even failed to fill the potholes that are troubling the commuters under Damoria Bridge. Residents told that some people generally fall down after bumping into potholes. Patches should be laid to fill potholes on the roads.
Residents speak
The MC should cover the nullah and shift the dump. Foul smell emanating from nullah causes troubles. MC should deploy a person to prevent throwing of garbage here.
