To promote the cause of organ donation, Panjab University will add a new clause of ‘signing the pledge for organ donation’ in their admission forms from the 2016-17 session.

Applicants will get a clause in the admission forms for ‘voluntarily’ opting for donating their eyes and vital body parts. After receiving a request from the health and family welfare department, Punjab, the PU syndicate on Saturday had approved the proposal.

Principal secretary, health and family welfare, Punjab, Vini Mahajan said, “Our motive is to reach out to a large number of people across the region. We had started with the transport department and ask drivers to pledge their eyes and other organs to benefit the ones who are in dire need of transplantation.”
“Now, we have requested all vice-chancellors of regional universities, including PU, from where we have received a positive response. I am sure that this act will be a major boost to our efforts, as students will further discuss the issue with their family and friends,” she added.

A syndicate member and principal of DAV College, Sector 10, BC Josan said students should be motivated to pledge their organs and also encourage their family and friends to do the same.
