Earlier the exam was scheduled to start from July 1, but was postponed in the wake of panchayat elections.

Students from neighbouring towns such as Jagraon, Samrala, Macchiwara, Raikot, Payal, Mullanpur are feeling jittery as they will have to travel for more than one hours to reach the examination centre.

“I have compartment in English and mathematics subjects and the examination centre is too far from my place. I am staying in Macchiwara and have no idea where the government school is located,” said a student on condition of anonymity.

Another student, who too didn't wish to be named, said, “I reside in Raikot, from where Ludhiana is 40 km. I will have to leave home at 8.30 am so that I can appear in the exam at 10 am. The authorities should have made one more examination centre at Raikot.”

District education officer (secondary), Paramjit Kaur Chahal, said, “We have no idea about the figures that how many students are appearing in the exam. As the students have applied to the board and they must have the actual figures.”

Suresh Tandon, vice-chairman of Punjab School Education Board, confirmed that that 750 students from Ludhiana district were appearing in the compartment exam.
