According to municipal corporation (MC) officials, the cows were kept inside a house without the MC's consent for the past several years by a person while his kin was opposing it.

When the MC officials reached the spot with HC orders, the house that spreads on around an acre was found locked. The officials then made announcements through loud speaker to free the cows.

“It was a dispute regarding property between two brothers and one of them moved HC as he claimed to have been suffering due to foul smell. According to the complainant, the unhygienic conditions are causing trouble as the cows were given shelter inside a house,” said Dr Charanjit Uppal, health officer of MC.
It has been learnt that many of the residents in the area were not aware of the cows being kept in the house. According to sources, the complainant had also made a complaint to the MC.

Chief of health and sanitation wing Amarjeet Singh Sekhon said, “We followed the HC direction. The owner of cows was in favour to keep them inside the house, but his brother was against it. His brother had also claimed that cows were kept in an illegal way.”

“When we went to Gurdev Nagar, the property was found locked. We made announcements after which the locks were opened,” he said.

Sekhon further said nobody could keep cattle in the residential area without taking consent from the MC. He further said the owner of cows had not taken any permission from the MC. The HC had issued orders on Tuesday, he added.

Also, the cow dung was being released into sewer lane, as per sources. Now, the cows have been shifted to Govind Godham on Hambran Road Ludhiana.
