Prime Minister Narendra Modi opted for comfort with a dash of style as he opted for a white half-sleeves T-shirt with matching tracksuit lowers and sports shoes to perform yoga ‘asanas’ (postures) with 3,500 participants at the national event at Chandigarh’s Capitol Complex on Tuesday morning.

Unlike last year when he donned a desi kurta-pyjama with a Tricolour scarf, this time Modi chose an Indo-Western attire complete with a white scarf printed on the edges with an Ikkat design (triangular-pattern) for style.

He handed over his spectacles and watch to his staff before heading for the red yoga mat placed at the centre of the sprawling complex.

Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and health minister Anil Vij led the Haryana brigade on the yoga mat, while Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher chose to watch the 45-minute proceedings from the stage. Khattar and Vij were attired in T-shirts, provided to participants by the Ayush ministry for the event, and blue lowers.
