Missing covers, litter render drains useless

Though monsoon is around the corner, the newly constructed gullies (drains) on both sides of the Pakhowal Road to curtail waterlogging have not been covered. As a result, they have become dumping grounds, besides being an open invitation to mishaps.

Residents, who have for years been suffering due to waterlogging every time it rains, have demanded officials’ immediate attention to ensure functioning of the new drainage system.

Some of these gullies were constructed around two months ago during the car peting of Pakhowal Road.

“The gullies were constructed before the Lok Sabha elections in April, but were left uncovered. Consequently, litter is getting collected in them, leaving the drains clogged and useless. The MC should ensure the drains are functional before the rainy season,” said Varinder Kumar, a resident. On the other hand, the gullies that were covered, have already started breaking.

Sourced said earlier in June, an MC team conducted an inspection, and issued a notice to the company concerned to ensure installation of covers on the gullies and also to complete other pending construction work on the road within 15 days.

Despite several attempts, MC additional commissioner Sumeet Jarangal could not be contacted for comments.
