After getting a large number of complaints against iron gates that were installed without any permission, the MC officials had proposed new conditions for it in the House meeting held on Saturday.
According to the proposal, if government approved it then the welfare associations can give application letter to MC and three members of the welfare will sign an agreement with MC for installation of gates.
The proposal further states that the MC will allow installation of gates in only those colonies where the police has done investigation.
Currently, hundreds of iron gates have been installed in different colonies across the city, and residents have made groups, one of them is favouring these gates and others are against it.
Some House members have demanded that the gates should not be installed on the inside streets, but at the entry and exit point of the colonies.
The MC had strictly mentioned in the proposed conditions that the gates should be opened from 5am-11pm. The welfare associations will ensure that a security guard is deployed at each gate from 11pm to 5am.
MC will also demand objections before allowing installation of gates. The proposal states that if welfare association violates the norms, MC can remove the gates.
The residents, who are in favour of gates, claimed that they installed gates for security reasons while others claimed that they were creating inconvenience for them.
Balkar Singh, a Congress councillor, said, "We had raised the issue of installation of gates on the inside streets of the colony. We demand that the gates should be installed on entry and exit points. The House has given its nod. We hope that the government will approve the proposal."
MC secretary Hartej Singh said, "We will soon forward the proposal about installation of the gates in different colonies."
The step was taken, as the MC was getting complaints that these gates usually remained close.
