Chahal’s son holds music concert to stake claim to Cong ticket

On Sunday, it was the turn of Bikramjit Inder Singh Chahal, 36, son of Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, to make his presence felt by organising a music concert of famous Punjabi singers Gurdas Maan and Pammi Bai here.
To stake his claim over the ticket, Bikramjit has been taking up social-welfare activities through Chahal Welfare Trust that offers free education, health services and has also opened three gymnasiums in the district.
Addressing the rally, Chahal spelt out his pro-people agenda and agricultural development in the area. “We are in touch with economists and industrial leaders to give a fillip to the farming and other sectors,” he said.
On his maiden political rally, Chahal didn’t name his political rivals and focused on the local issues. “We have offered several free services through our trust and intend to further such initiatives to serve the people of this constituency. I belong to this place and will try my level best to fulfil your dreams.”
Before Chahal came to address the gathering, the local grain market was ja-mpacked. Gurdas Maan sang some of his famous songs and also urged the audience to support Chahal.
Since the Aam Admi Party (AAP) has announced their candidate for Mansa seat, ticket aspirants of the Congress have escalated their activities in the region. Last week, former Congress MLA Mangat Rai Bansal held a public rally to project his wife Manju Bala as a candidate from Mansa. Bansal, who had been with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) at some point of time in the past, had quit politics over the sacrilege incident last year.
“Bharat Inder Singh Chahal is a close aide of Captain Amarinder Singh and this rally has only propelled the chances of his son getting the party ticket,” said a party worker who attended the rally.
