If the things go as per the plans of the municipal corporation, the city will get the new jogging and cycling tracks along the Sidhwan Canal and static compactor systems for better solid waste management this year.
With an aim to promote cycling to encourage non-motorized vehicles in the city, the MC has roped in big industrial houses for financing the project. Federation of the Industrial and Commercial Organisations (FICO) has come forward to adopt this project.
MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal said that the cycle track would be constructed from Ferozepur Road to Gill Road along the Sidhwan Canal.
It was learnt that the width of this international standard track would be of 16 feet and with the 6 km length. Rs 5 crore would be spent on the project for construction and maintenance for a period of 5 years.
This jogging track will be constructed on left hand side bank of Sidhwan Canal adjoining proposed cycle track. This jogging track will be constructed from Ferozepur Road to Gill Road. In first phase it will be constructed from Ferozepur Road to Ferozepur Railway line. Length of this jogging track will be 3,608 feet and width will be 10 feet. Rs 11.61 lakh will be spent on this project.
MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal said that the first phase of the project would be completed by April while the deadline for completion of entire project would be March 31, 2017
