The best selfie with garbage will be awarded a prize of Rs 2,100 by Hetaishi Mankind Welfare.
Infuriated over municipal corporation’s laxity towards maintaining cleanliness in the city, which is going to be developed as a smart city, a non-profit organisation (NGO) has come up with ‘selfie with garbage’ campaign. The best selfie with garbage will be awarded a prize of Rs 2,100 by Hetaishi Mankind Welfare.
A banner publicising ‘selfie with garbage’ campaign has been installed on a wall along the Ferozepur Road where garbage and wild grass was dumped before Diwali but the civic body has not made any effort to get it cleaned till date.
Now, the residents have been asked to click their selfie at the same place and then upload it on the NGO’s Facebook page facebook. com/ he ta is hi mankind welfare. The banner mocks the state government for ignoring the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
President of NGO, Sunil Prabhakar said, “We complained to MC several times but they did nothing, to get the area near Silver Arc Mall cleaned. The road was only cleaned before the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
“We want to create awareness regarding cleanliness among residents. We will scrutinise all the selfie pictures sent to us and the best photo will be awarded with prize money,” he said.
Meanwhile, a few residents also took their selfie with garbage dumped on the roadside. The members of this NGO are from different fields, including corporate, professionals and businessmen, as mentioned on its Facebook page.
“It was a much needed step to show the actual situation of cleanliness in the city. Such campaigns should be started in the sensitive areas like Dhandari Khurd, Sherpur, Giaspura, EWS Colony and others, where the officials concerned failed to take concrete measures to ensure cleanliness,” said Satish Sachdeva, a resident.
When contacted, MC commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said he was unaware about the complaint. He assured that he will direct the staff concerned to take required measures to get the area cleaned.
