Ludhiana: City bus service likely to be resumed by January 26

As locals continue to keep waiting for the city bus service to resume since July 2014, the mayor Harchran Singh Gohalwaria and other municipal corporation (MC) officials claim they are trying their best, and the service is likely to be resumed by January 26.

Though in absence of these city buses, people have been forced to travel through auto-rickshaws that charge hefty sum from them, with no use these buses are getting damaged at the workshop.

The civic body has already signed an agreement with a private firm, Horizon Connect Transways Private Limited, for operating and maintaining these buses. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised doubts over the condition of advertisements, which is believed to be the reason behind the delay.

However the advertisements issue has not been addressed so far, the mayor claimed the service would be resumed from January 26.

Physically challenged, Ramesh Srivastav, said, “They shouldn’t play politics over the issue that pertains to the public. Though agreement has been signed, the service has not been resumed yet.”

“The service should be resumed at the earliest. Without city buses, it has been difficult for us to travel to different areas of the city,” said, Satish Sachdeva, a city resident.

Parveen Bansal, BJP district president, said the advertisement issue has not been resolved. And he did not reveal
anything else.

Despite repeated attempts, the city bus service manager Baljeet Singh did not answer calls. hen contacted, the mayor said, “The service will be resumed from January 26. We are trying our level best to start the service at the earliest.”

Earlier, the service was supposed to be resumed by January 15, after the contract was signed with the new firm. ertinent that the city buses have not been running since July 2014, as the previous firm had refused to resume services after Ludhiana City Bus Service Limited had failed to pay pending dues.
