In Tarn Taran, ex-serviceman dies in cash queue

A 65-year-old ex-serviceman died of heart attack at Cheema Kalan village, 18 km from here, in a queue outside the State Bank of India branch on Monday

Malook Singh had gone to the bank with his grandson Akashdeep Singh to withdraw pension money. “As there was rush, he had to stand in the queue. After some time, he collapsed,” Akashdeep said. “We called the ambulance and took him to the civil hospital at Chabhal, where doctors declared him dead,” he said. Police started the inquest proceedings and handed over the body to the family.

Branch manager Sanjay Kaul said the bank was not responsible for the incident. “We have separate counters for senior citizens and ex-servicemen. The problem is that we are not getting required cash,” he said.
