Seeking permissions before inter-state raids is a hurdle in curbing the drug menace, Mansa police told the STF.

Responding to the STF, the police sent some suggestions highlighting the problems faced while conducting raids in other states. “Whenever we get information of drug peddlers in Haryana, delay in getting permission for raid helps the suspect flee,” read the letter.

SP detective Narinder Pal Singh said there are many issues faced while chasing a suspect in the neighbouring districts in Haryana. DIG (Bathinda range) Ashish Chaudhry said, “If police have information about suspect in other state, a case should be registered and suspect should be chased.” The STF ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu said there are clear guidelines under the Code of Criminal Procedure stating under what conditions arrest can be made and it does not mention need to seek permission.

LIST OF RECOMMENDATIONS:

Strict vigil on pharmaceutical shops in the neighbouring districts of Haryana.

Need to seek permission to conduct raid in areas outside state should be lifted as its time-consuming.

Due to anti-drug drive in Punjab, addicts travel to Haryana to consume drugs. Similar campaign should be launched in the neighbouring state as well.

Haryana Police should keep strict vigil on drug smugglers operating in bordering villages.
