Faulty speed-breakers are causing mishaps in different areas of the city. At many places speed-breakers have been constructed in an improper manner due to which they are not properly visible.

At many places speed-breakers have been constructed in an improper manner due to which they are not properly visible.

Moreover, no warning signs of speed-breakers have been installed on either side of roads due to which these speed-breakers have become nightmare for the commuters.

In some areas, the residents have got constructed these speed-breakers on their own by violating the norms.

As many of the speed-breakers have not been painted black and white making them inconspicuous. Most of the times commuters could not guess the speed-breaker, thus leading to accidents leading to spine and back problem in many people.

Besides, these faulty speed-breakers are also damaging the vehicles. Faulty speed-breakers can be commonly seen in Flower Enclave, Lodhi Club Road, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Urban Estate, Shyam Nagar, Model Town and other many of the residential areas of the city.

It is also required to mention that some residents are in favour of these speed-breakers, while some are raising voice against them. In some areas the speed-breakers are of plastic material while others have been constructed with cement or bitumen.

A resident of Flower Enclave that falls under GLADA claimed that the speed-breakers were constructed as the high-speed vehicles were leading to mishaps, and pedestrians were also becoming victims to it.

“According to the norms of Indian Road Congress, a warning sign should be displayed 30 metres ahead of the speed-breaker,” said Kamaljit Soi, a road safety expert. A warning sign should be displayed on either sides of the road. He said the speed-breakers should be painted in black and white with thermoplastic paint that reflects during night.

“No warning signs have been installed on the roads where these speed-breakers were constructed,” Soi said.

Traffic expert Rahul Verma said, “Many of the speed-breakers are not visible due to which they cause mishaps. These should be 100% visible. Speed-breakers should be constructed at required places or near schools or hospitals, but not on highways.” harshraj.singh@hindustantimes.com
