Broken roads with scary potholes, improper garbage disposal, water shortage at times, power cuts, broken swings in parks, poorly-maintained green belt and stinking narrow lanes describe ward number 24.

She had joined politics in 1993-94 following her husband’s footsteps. Later, she had become the president of the BJP’s women wing. She is known for taking up the issue of water shortage in her ward and seeking round-the-clock water supply, especially in Mauli Jagran. However, she did not start any new project during her tenure, but worked on old projects that had already been initiated.

She faced a lot of problems initially in getting tube-wells or the water tanks installed. She claims that there was much politics in the issue of water. However, residents still complain of muddy water and shortage of water in the ward.

The issue of opening up a shopping centre, where 112 booths were made has been pending since three years and not even a single booth has been allotted so far. Rajinder says that she had written to the commissioner and the administration a number of times but to no effect. While on cleanliness, she claims to have been taking personal interest in it. She says that residents tell her that Mauli Jagran has changed a lot in comparison to what it was five years ago. She also claims to have spent Rs 2.6 crore for laying the sewerage lines, but residents counter it by saying that the problem has not been solved.

Tomorrow: Ward 25 Gurcharan Das Kala
