Class 12 toppers of Chandigarh skip city for other higher study destinations
A report of the Chandigarh administration’s advisory council says that the students were not enrolling in Chandigarh colleges and moving out to other cities.
Toppers making it to the first 100 ranks in Chandigarh in Class 12 prefer to move out to other destinations for higher studies, a report of the Chandigarh administration’s advisory council has revealed.
Presented at the council meeting on Wednesday, the report said the students were not enrolling in Chandigarh colleges and moving out to other cities.
To help local institutes attract talent, the advisory council suggested strengthening of research and innovation, augmentation of sports facilities, health care facilities in college hostels and outcome assessment survey plan. The proposals have to be implemented by the higher education department to analyse the outcome of each college.
The administration has also highlighted the quality improvement work carried out in various city colleges under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme of infrastructure grant in higher educational institutes. These included a day care centre, life science research labs, additional classrooms, renovation of washrooms and toilets for the disabled, computerised skill development lab, radio frequency identification (RFID) system for library automation, water boosting arrangement in girls hostels, construction of ramps, strengthening of ICT resource of classrooms, upgrades of existing library and ICT learning resources and an English digital lounge.
Colleges also received grants for improved/new laboratory equipment, augmentation of infrastructure facilities, alternate energy resources (solar panels), data server room for better networking arrangements, strengthening of sports facilities and a film studio.
