To deal with the chronic water logging in most of the areas in the city, a storm drainage system across the city still remains a distant dream.
Lack of funds has deterred the municipal corporation (MC) to start the project even as persistent waterlogging continues to haunt the residents.
The water enters the shops outside the zone A office premises. Many times, 1-2 feet water gets accumulated here after heavy rainfall as the area is low lying.
Not only the visitors, the authorities and councillors have experienced the water logging outside the MC’s Zone A. The councilors have demanded the civic body to install the storm sewer system across the city to deal with waterlogging problem.
Several councillors claimed that the road gullies are not cleaned before the rainy season and officers concerned come in action only when situation becomes worse.
The waterlogging is commonly experienced in the areas, including Samrala Chowk, RK Road, Dholewal Chowk, Model Town, Shastri Nagar, Ghumar Mandi, College Road, near Clock Tower, near Manju Cinema, Dashmesh Nagar, Gill Road, Dairy Complex, Hambran Road, Transport Nagar, near Chand Cinema, New Kundan Puri, Old City areas, Salem Tabri, Mohar Singh Nagar, New Hargobind Nagar, Atam Park, Shivpuri, Kashmir Nagar among other areas during rainy season.
Ludhiana West SubDivision Grievances Redressal Committee member Satish Thaman said the residents continue to send their complaints but the civic body ignored them. If the civic body lacks funds, the government should arrange it for installation of the storm drainage system.
MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori claimed that he instructed the staff concerned to ensure the cleaning of the road gullies.
