Of the 1,000 seats in BA and 140 seats in BCom courses, girls have secured 30% of them.
“Since our college became co-ed from this session, we had to increase the number of seats in BA course to accommodate girls. We increased the seats from 800 to 1000,” said principal JK Sehgal.
“The first candidate we admitted to the BA course this time was a girl. We are surprised to receive such a good response.
Sukriti, who got admission at the college on the second day, said, “I tried at PGGCG -11 but I could not couldn’t get hostel facility there.”
“Better subject combinations, a decent crowd and hostel facility brought me to the college. My brother had taken admission here in BCom last year when it was only meant for boys,” Urvashi Sharma, another student, said.
There are four women colleges in the city — Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11; Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42; Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, and MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36.
One of the boys Mudit Jain said, “City does not even have single boys’ college, while there are four girls’ colleges. Only boys’ college has its own fun. The college has increased the seats in BA but not in BCom, which is why, some deserving boys could not get a seat.”
