The outer road that connects Pakhowal Road and Dhandran Road is in a pitiable condition where several potholes are a common sight. These result in road mishaps most of the times.

This road from Phullanwal leads to at least six major schools including BCM, Green Land and others but the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has not even got patch work done here.

To avoid traffic snarls inside the city areas, the commuters from Ferozepur Road and Pakhowal Road generally choose this way to reach Dugri, Basant Vihar and others. The stretch near Flower Enclave Chowk and Green Land School has got badly damaged.

It has been learnt that the GLADA had laid patches at some places last year but these could not provide relief to the commuters. Now, potholes, some of these are even a foot deep, have appeared at several places on this road. According to the commuters, several accidents have been taken place in the past few years here and some of the mishaps have proved fatal. This road is a part of the bypass that starts from Ferozepur Road.

Besides, unwanted cuts and absence of traffic lights also contribute to commuters' woes. The residents of Urban Estate, Basant Vihar, Flower Enclave, Phullanwal, Dhandran Road, Bhagat Singh Nagar and others have been demanding from GLADA authorities to take immediate action to construct this road in a proper way. Besides, the residents also seek zebra crossings near the schools.

The residents say that improper street light on service lanes hassles commuters during night hours. Even caution boards regarding speed limit are yet to be installed.

When contacted, SS Sandhu, superintending engineer of GLADA, said that the repair works on the damaged portion of the road will be started soon. He said the tenders for repair work have been floated.

Residents speak:

Several accidents have taken place on this road that leads to various schools. The authorities should take steps to recarpet this road properly to avoid any mishap in future. Deepam, a student

There are many potholes on this road. Apart from accidents, the potholes also inflict damages on vehicles. Traffic lights, zebra crossings and speed breakers are also required here.

Official speak:

I will look into the matter and necessary steps will be taken. GLADA has recently floated tenders for repair work of different roads.

GK Singh Dhaliwal, chief administrator, GLADA
