Residents of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) colony are unhappy with the filth conditions in the area, while broken roads are also a major concern. With this, tall claims of the civic body have fallen flat as the area represents a perfect picture of negligence. The colony falls under Zone B near the Tajpur Road, Ludhiana.

While civic body has resolved the sewerage problem, the area has not seen any other major development from the last several years. People generally remain sick due to filth conditions and allege that the water supplied by the municipal corporation (MC) stinks. A majority of the residents in the area are labourers, daily wagers, vendors or mechanics and their income is less.

According to the area residents, the government had provided them houses on installment basis around 20 years ago and ensured to provide all the basic amenities.

There are parks, but are filled with litter. The children generally remain sick due to unhygienic conditions. The boundary walls of the parks are broken and a view of plants is a distant dream here.

The woes of residents, however, do not end here. Residents of the area keep complaining about these problems, but the officials concerned have failed to act. “The roads are not repaired or carpeted for around five years,” claim the area residents. Turning the situation from bad to worse, one can see pigs and stray cattle roaming in the area.

“We can’t spend from our pockets and install water purifiers at our homes. We appeal to the authorities to pay immediate attention to our problems. The political leaders come to our colony only during elections, but they never fulfill their promises and develop our area,” said the residents.

Executive engineer (B and R) of the municipal corporation Praveen Singla said, “We will prepare the estimates for carpeting of roads in the area and ensure that the required steps are taken as soon as possible.”
