Talking to HT, producer of the movie Alka Mittal said the movie “A Ram” stands for “Anti-Rape Association and Mission” which is being produced in association with Anup Jalota Films. The movie is being shot in Dabra village where the incident took place. The movie is being directed by Baldev Rajput, who hails from Hisar. Bollywood actor Yashpal Sharma is also playing a guest role in the movie, said Mittal.

Talking about the story, Mittal said: “A Haryana girl who is bold and a national-level athlete has a verbal duel with some youths in the village during her practice session. Later they rape her and even shoot her video. Actress Ruksana is playing the lead role and Alisha is playing the role her best friend.”

“Later, her brother who is a bright student and studying in Delhi, comes to know about the incident and starts a campaign to provide justice for her sister and other rape victims.” Mittal added.

Dabra village hit the headlines after a Dalit 16-year-old girl was gangraped by eight youths of the village on September 5, 2012, when she was on her way to meet her relatives. The accused also recorded the heinous crime on a mobile phone. The girl’s father, a gardener, committed suicide after he was forced by the villagers to withdraw his complaint and case registered against the accused.

After the incident, the girl associated herself with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and started fighting for women’s rights and against rape cases in Haryana. Movie director Baldev Rajput said: “As I belong to Hisar and I know how women are treated here. We conducted a study on rape cases in Haryana and started shooting the movie in Dabra village. We are getting good support from the villagers. The movie is likely to hit the screen by May or June next year.”
