Android app for admission to Chandigarh colleges fails to take off

The e-Campus android mobile application, launched in 2015 to make the admission process paperless in government colleges, has failed to take off.
Long queues are witnessed at city colleges where students come to deposit their fees and fill up forms for the admission, thus defeating the purpose of mobile application. It runs on Android operating system.
While the society for promotion of IT in Chandigarh (SPIC) had developed the application has no knowledge if any student downloaded this application in the past one year, the blame is shifted to the colleges for not making the students aware about the app.
“Our responsibility was to prepare the database for all the colleges so that the concerned teachers can upload the information for the convenience of students. Later it was the responsibility of an individual college to take it forward,” said CEO of SPIC, Anil Prashar.
He added, “It’s in the interest of the students that they can be freed from the paper work and save time on visiting the colleges during admission process. In another 3-4 months, we will formally launch the application so that students can check their attendance and timetable on their phones, through this application.”
Prashar also said from 2017 the application will enable the students to deposit their fees through their phones and they will have to fill up one-time admission form for three years of graduation.
Final year student of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Akansha Kukreja said, “I am not aware of any such application and if there is one, I wonder if the college teachers have adequate time to upload information on that app for the students.”
Principal of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, Mani Bedi, said, “It has not been fully functional. I believe that SPIC will keep adding features like for parents who can keep a tab on their children, and on attendance and the fee structure as well.”
Colleges covered under e-Campus application PGGC-11), PGGCG-11, PGGCG-42, PGGC-46 (Co-ed), Government College of Commerce and Business Administration Sector- 42 and Regional Institute of English,Sector-32 (Co- ed).
SPIC had prepared the database for the colleges last year and in Phase 1, the government colleges need to implement such that in phase 2, it can be implemented in professional colleges including Chandigarh college of architecture, Home Science College and government Arts college.
