The police not only recovered 16 mobile phones snatched from various places by them, but also got hold on few sharp-edged weapons.
Detailing about the first gang, Jagmohan Singh, deputy commissioner of police (DSP) (investigations) said, “As the police were working on nabbing snatchers who were involved in several incidents, success came our way when during patrolling, the police managed to arrest four snatchers and recovered 16 mobile phones from them.”
The DCP said that the accused have been identified as Kulwant Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Shubham and Chand.
A police official said that this gang has admitted its involvement in 15 different cases of snatchings in Amritsar city.
Detailing about the second gang, Jagmohan Singh said, “This gang of the city used to target the under-construction buildings at night. The gang used to make the workers hostage and apart from looting their belongings, they also took away items from the buildings.”
“Police nabbed seven members of this gang during patrolling and during the preliminary questioning, the gang has admitted its involvement in 14 incidents of theft,” the DCP added.
The accused have been identified as Surjit Kumar, Mohan Singh, Sonu, Lucky, Sukhwinder Singh, Major Singh and Nanak Singh. All of them have been sent to the police custody for five days.
