Akal Takht jathedar says both the leaders will be contacted to diffuse the tension, asks them and their supporters to refrain from issuing statements

The highest Sikh temporal seat, Akal Takht, has stepped in to find an amicable solution to the differences between Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and Damdami Taksal Chief Harnam Singh Dhumma, a day after the latter admitted to his supporters’ role in the May 17 attack on the Sikh preacher.

Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said both the religious leaders would be contacted to diffuse the tension. He also asked them and their supporters to refrain from issuing statements. Both the groups would be called to the Akal Takht secretariat and discussions would be held to find a solution and ensure that there is no division in the community, he added.

The jathedar said: “Both Damdami Taksal and Dhadrianwale have contributed a lot in spreading the Sikh religion and have considerable following. But it is unfortunate that the tussle between Dhumma and Dhadrianwale has resulted in a murderous attack claiming a life. This confrontation should end as some people are trying to take advantage of the situation.”

Anti-Panthic forces don’t want that the teachings of the Gurbani should be propagated. Akal Takht has taken strict notice of this and both Dhumma and Dhadrianwale must refrain from making any statements, added Jathedar.

On Monday, Dhumma had broken his silence and claimed that the attack was a result of continuous remarks by Dhadrianwale on the “dastar” (turban) of the Taksal.

Dhumma had even admitted that the attackers were followers of the Taksal. He also said that he respected the sentiments of the attackers and ensured them all help. The Taksal chief said he was ready for any probe and will join investigation if need be.
