AAP selling tickets for Rs 1 crore, will face revolt: Sukhbir Badal

Hours after the Aam Aadmi Party announced its first list of 19 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said the party was charging Rs 1 crore for giving tickets and it was said by none other than their own party workers.

In Raikot to distribute bicycles among girl students, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president said: “The AAP leadership has ignored all democratic norms, which is evident from the way the tickets for the 2017 elections have been announced. The party has in fact resorted to selling tickets, which is being claimed by its own workers.”

Addressing another gathering at Muktsar, the deputy CM said: “AAP leaders are openly alleging bias and dictatorial methods in the distribution of tickets. Only those people got tickets who support Kejriwal’s whims and fancies, while common workers are feeling neglected.”

Claiming the early declaration of candidates by AAP will not make slightest difference to the SAD’s political fortunes, Sukhbir said the move will only give rise to factionalism within the rookie party, spelling doom for it even before the state goes to polls.

“The AAP is now finished. They won’t even get close to winning four seats in the elections. Its leaders have already started revolting,” he said. Slamming AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Sukhbir said the party and its workers had no agenda in Punjab, but to defame the state. He charged both AAP and the Congress with carrying out a nefarious campaign to brand Punjabi youth as drug addicts.

“Both these partners in crime will be shown their true place by the people of Punjab during the 2017 elections,” said the deputy CM. (with inputs from Muktsar)
