Many residents of Pawar nagar located particularly near Mangal nagar stated that the water was dirty and gave strong, foul-smelling odour. Some of the residents of Thergaon, hence, approached the civic body with their complaints.

“I found the tap water contaminated, coloured and smelled bad. Residents from our colony filed a complaint with the municipal office but are yet to get a response from any civic official,” said Bhim Nalawade, a resident of Lokmanya colony, Ganesh nagar. He said the contaminated water poses health hazard.

“Since last month, the colour of drinking water supplied in our area is yellowish with drainage-like odour. Also, we get water at very low pressure,” said Swati Bhondwe, a resident of Yashada colony, Dange chowk. Women residents of the area also approached the local leader regarding the issue but got no response, she added.

“I have directed engineers to look into the issue and ensure clean supply of water at the earliest,” said Pravin Ladkat, corporation officer of ward 24.

Corporation deputy engineer Bhausaheb Sabale said, “Water has been contaminated because of drainage blockade. We sorted out the problem of major area by washing out the whole pipeline. Since last week, we have received complaints prominently from Adinath nagar and are working on it.”

According to Sabale, water is supplied through galvanised pipe that needs to checked for leakage and contamination after every five years. “We have already solved the problem in Mangal nagar, and Pawan nagar, he said.
