Schools that do not comply with RTE will lose candidacy: zilla parishad
Under the primary education department of zilla parishad, a total of 933 schools in the Pune district had qualified in the first round to give admissions under RTE, with reservation of 25 per cent of its seats.
Schools denying admission to students under the 25 per cent seat reservation of Right to Education (RTE) Act will now face cancellation of candidacy, said an official from the education department of the city’s zilla parishad.
“It is high time that strict action is taken against schools denying education to the students who need them the most. Hence, all the schools in the district who have denied admission will have to face strict repercussions, leading up to the cancellation of candidacy,” said Ganpat More, education officer, zilla parishad.
Under the primary education department of zilla parishad, a total of 933 schools in the Pune district had qualified in the first round to give admissions under RTE, with reservation of 25 per cent of its seats. 10,284 students had been selected to occupy these seats, however, some were denied admissions citing various reasons, including the lack of payment of reimbursements. Despite the Bombay high court’s order to provide free education, many schools had not complied. The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay high court, in the writ petition 687/2018, had mandated the schools from letting the students’ admissions under RTE and have been given the a deadline of May 11.
Further, More informed that primary schools which had been denying admissions will be given a show-cause notice, after which the approval confirming their candidacy will be withdrawn.
