Savitribai Phule Pune University to start BTech courses in four streams
The varsity’s technology department already runs Master of Technology (MTech) and PhD courses.
For the first time, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) department of technology will introduce four new undergraduate (UG) courses of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) from next academic year.

The varsity’s technology department already runs Master of Technology (MTech) and PhD courses. After getting requisite permissions from the central and state authorities, the courses will be launched from 2020-21.
“Four new BTech courses will be introduced by the department of technology. We have already received the permission from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and other approvals are awaited. As it will take a few months to complete the permission process, the new courses would probably start from next academic year 2020-21,” said Dr Aditya Abhyankar, dean faculty of technology department, SPPU.
The technology department runs industry-university sponsored MTech-PhD integrated programmes. Four technology boards have been established under the umbrella of ‘Faculty of Technology’, namely Chemical and Biotechnology (CB), Computer and Information Technology (CI), Electrical and Electronics Technology (EE) and Mechanical and Materials Technology (MM).
Students who are planning to pursue BTech courses from the city have welcomed the varsity’s decision.
Keshav Pangare, a Class 12 science student, said, “I will complete my Class 12 exams next year and plan to join the SPPU’s BTech course for electrical and electronics technology as the varsity is ranked one of the best in the country. Starting BTech UG courses will definitely benefit students.”
