Savitribai Phule Pune University refectory turns toxic, worms in cauliflower dish
The angry students staged an on-spot protest against the contractor of the refectory.
Panic prevailed at the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) refectory on Tuesday afternoon, as students found worms in the food being served to them. There were 300 students in the mess when the incident took place. The angry students staged an on-spot protest against the contractor of the refectory. SPPU administrative officials intervened to solve the issue and have asked the refectory manager to serve desserts along with the regular food for the next three days to compensate for the bad food.

Nandakumar Hange, a PhD student from SPPU said, “We were having lunch at the refectory, when a student found a worm in the cauliflower vegetable. We approached the manager who looked into the issue and realised that there were worms in the entire batch of the cauliflower food, that was prepared for the students.”
In his apology, Gorakh Ganpati Yadav , refectory manager said, “It was our mistake, we served the food with worms. We will make sure that we will do a through check of our stock before cooking and maintain the hygiene of the refectory. We have assured the students that this will not happen again. “
Professor Sadanand Bhosale, president of SPPU refectory advisory committee said, “We will be taking a strict action against the contractor. In order to compensate, we have asked him to serve deserts along with the regular food for the next three days. We will also conduct regular checks of the refectory food and complaints from students will be addressed immediately ”
A similar incident took place on January 22, wherein the students protested against the sub-standard quality food that was served at the refectory. At least 750 students dine at the refectory everyday.
