Prafulla Pawar, registrar of SPPU said only students who have monthly membership will be served meals at the refectory
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) administration has reworked its rule system after a student found a worm in the refectory food.
Currently 850 students are registered members of the refectory, while 300 students avail the coupon system. The price for one meal is Rs 32.(SHANKAR NARAYAN/HT)
“In a meeting that was held on Saturday at the vice-chancellors office, we have decided to stop the ‘coupon service’ as it increases the pressure on the contractor. Only students who have monthly membership will be served meals at the refectory”, said Prafulla Pawar, registrar of SPPU.
“Students who used to avail the coupon service, can have their meals from various canteens in the campus. We will also be installing closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras inside and around the refectory premises” said Pawar.
Students will not be permitted to share meals henceforth. Glass barriers will be put up at serving counters, to prevent students from taking food items directly. The television set will also be removed as it acts as a cause of fights among students. Soft music or SPPU’s Vidyavani radio will now be played instead, added Pawar.
