Pune ring road to develop on the lines of Ahmedabad

The project will now focus on developing town planning schemes around the ring road

Ring road in Pune will be executed on the lines of Ahmedabad city and mainly by developing the town planning schemes, said Kiran Gitte, chief executive officer of Pune Metropolitian Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Speaking to the media, Gitte said that it was decided to develop the ring road project by executing the town planning scheme which would  be a win-win situation for all because under the town planning scheme, land owners do not lose their right on the whole plot. Even the PMRDA would get the land without paying any cost, he added.

Ahmedabad city executed the whole ring road by developing various town planning schemes around it. The maximum town planning schemes limit would be 200 hectares which would help execute the scheme in a short period. Ahmedabad executed 250 town planning schemes around their ring road and now they are planning an outer ring road.

Gitte said that they visited the Ahmedabad city last week to understand the model of developing town planning schemes around the ring road. Same model would be executed in Pune while developing the ring road.

He also expressed confidence that by coming October, the ring road was expected to kick start mainly in the patch between Solapur road and Satara road.

The ring road is a total 128-km stretch which will connect places on the periphery of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city. It would have eight lanes.

PMRDA is also planning to erect affordable housing around the ring road. They have also appointed agencies for executing the town planning schemes. One agency is from Ahmedabad and another from Pune, said Gitte.

He said that the PMRDA is also checking some options for raising funds for the ring road project and soft loans from Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) for the ring road project.

PMRDA will check parking charges at Lavasa

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Agency (PMRDA) will look into the parking fees charged by Lavasa city and check if it is necessary, said Kiran Gitte, PMRDA chief executive officer.

As the state government appointed PMRDA as a planning authority of Lavasa by scrapping its special status, now it was PMRDA’s responsibility to look in the planning issues.

When media persons raised the issue of parking charges in Lavasa city, Gitte said that the PMRDA will look into the matter and check under what circumstances they were charging parking fees in the Lavasa city.

By doing the study, PMRDA would take a decision on it. Gitte said that from now on all permissions in Lavasa city would be given from PMRDA office. The first round of meeting was completed with Lavasa officials, confirmed Gitte.

PMRDA will check Lavasa’s documents from December 2015 as PMRDA got the planning authority status from that period. He said that both Lavasa and PMRDA were functioning under Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act. By considering this most of the functioning would be same, said Gitte.
