The employees under the civic body have a higher salary structure as compared to those in the service of the state government. A few months ago, the PMC had submitted its recruitment rules to the state government which were approved by the government with the advisory that the PMC scale down its salary structure to match that of the state government.
Following the advisory, the PMC administration was planning to rationalise the civic salary structure.
The PMC employees’ union had opposed the administration’s move and had condemned the state government’s instructions to revise the salary structure in an agitation on July 17.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), then, assured the employees that they will convince the state government against seeking to revise the salary structure. Accordingly, leader of the house in PMC Srinath Bhimale organised a meeting of the PMC employees’ union with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday.
The CM assured the employees that the salaries of the PMC employees won’t be rationalised as planned previously.
According to a senior officer, the salaries of municipal employees are always higher than that of the state government employees due to various allowance. The municipal corporation is an autonomus body and it has the right to decide the salaries of its employees.
