PCMC’s ring road gains more opposition as parties demand realignment of roads
NCP, Congress, Shiv Sena and MNS have joined hands to corner BJP, which is the ruling party in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Residents of affected areas of proposed ring road had taken three protest march to municipal corporation in the recent past.
Opposition to proposed ring road, which pass through Pimpri-Chinchwad is gaining momentum with all political parties and number of social organisations demanding to change alignment of the ring road or to cancel it.
NCP, Congress, Shiv Sena and MNS have joined hands to corner BJP, which is the ruling party in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Residents of affected areas of proposed ring road had taken three protest march to municipal corporation in the recent past. Protest march was supported by Congress president Sachin Sathe, NCP president Sanjog Waghire and Sena leader Rahul Kalate. All these parties were routed in civic elections, held in February this year.
Sena Lok Sabha member Shrirang Barne met chief minister Devendra Fadnavis last week. He has alleged that several errors in the allignment of ring road have been committed. Barne has alleged that administration was acting in haste, posing serious problems to the residents and farmers. Barne has maintained that Fadnavis had assured him that citizens would not be suffered under any circumstance because of ring road.
BJP leadership finds itself in tight position as the proposed ring road is part of the ambitious plan of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA). Fadnavis is chairperson of PMRDA and is looking into the progress personally.
PMRDA has issued around 2,500 notices to residents in Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA), who have come to the streets. All these structures are said to have encroached in the proposed ring road. Sources in PMRDA said that Pimpri-Chinchwad would have 30 km length, which includes 16 km in PCNTDA and 14 km in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Affected areas will be Kasarwadi, MIDC, Rawet, Bijlinagar, Chinchwadenagar, Rahatani, Thergaao, Pimple Gurav and Chikhli. Sources in PMRDA said that they had completed exercise of identifying structures, which have come up on the ring road, which are around 25,000 in Pimpri-Chinchwad alone.
Affected people have already formed a committee to lead the agitation, which is supported by all political parties.

*Ring road will have pedestrian plaza, cycle track, space for non-motorized vehicles and other facilities like bank, rest rooms, hotels and etc.
*PMRDA plans to work for vehicle movement without any interruption, like on express way.
*PMRDA plans to complete the work in seven years.
*PMRDA plans to allot four per cent FSI for the land, along with ring road. But it will be with premium to raise the funds.
*Plan to have housing schemes for economically weaker section on surplus land.
