More than 10,000 illegal structures to face action in Pune
PMRDA officials will soon start a drive against irregularised buildings in areas under its jurisdiction
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated the process of acting against illegal constructions under its jurisdiction by serving notices to 10,938 structures. According to officials, PMRDA has a total of 16938 illegal constructions out of which 5000 are from newly merged 11 villages in Pune Municipal Corporation.
In a review meeting conducted by guardian minister Girish Bapat on Sunday, PMRDA was instructed to act against all illegal constructions in areas under its jurisdiction while Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was asked to take action against illegal buildings in the 11 recently merged villages.
Kiran Gitte, chief executive officer of PMRDA, said that a detailed plan of action has also been made for the same by the cell. He further added, “Post a detailed survey by the authorities, we will be serving notices to more than 10, 000 illegal constructions. The PMRDA has already appointed an agency for this purpose. The contractor will be paid ₹570 per square metre and the amount will be reclaimed from the illegal buildings’ owners.”
After the proper scrutiny of all illegal constructions, the authorities will look into the possibilities of regularising their respective projects. If it is feasible, we will penalise the developer and will then regularise the construction, said Gitte. However, if there is no scope of legalising the project, we will be forced to demolish it, added Gitte.
The survey involves checking for building permissions and other clearances. Illegal constructions built till December 2015 can be regularised by paying penalty and compounding charges.
