It takes Sinhagad road residents over 30 minutes to cross this half kilometre stretch in Kirkatwadi due to potholes

Numerous potholes at Kirkatwadi on Sinhagad road area, which is outside the Pune municipal corporation jurisdiction and falls under the jurisdiction of the Pune metropolitan region development authority (PMRDA), are creating major traffic snarls with citizens requiring 30 minutes at peak hour just to cross the half kilometre stretch.

These potholes are primarily in front of the central water and power research station (CWPRS).

Resident of the area, Yogesh Jadhav, said that traffic snarls had become routine on this stretch. No civic authority is attending to these potholes which are causing enormous inconvenience to residents, he added.

Another resident Aniket Sovani said, “Population in this area has increased drastically in the last few years. Many housing projects have also come up here and hence, traffic congestion has increased.”

College-going student Reshma Gupta said that there is no place to walk on this road as there is mud on both the sides of the road. There are no footpaths on this road near Kirkatwadi, she added. It is accepted that this part is not within the PMC limit, but the concerned authority should make life easy for citizens, she said.

Trekker Vaibhav Thorat said that he used to visit Sinhagad fort often and Sinhagad is a major tourist destination. However, the bad condition of the road towards Sinhagad is defaming Pune city.

When contacted, PMRDA’s chief executive officer Kiran Gitte, said, “This part falls under PMRDA. We will check which agency is related to this road or else PMRDA would immediately take necessary steps to clear the potholes.”

Gitte instructed a PMRDA officer to conduct a site visit and take necessary steps to address the issue.
